B.Y.O. Bike

Unlike other art forms that hang neatly in pristine galleries, graffiti offers no dainty placards to explain technique, meaning, or message. Three- or four-letter tags — and occasionally crew names and dates — are the only hints at the personalities behind the spray cans and the stories hidden in the curves of winding letters and intricate stenciling. But this Sunday’s Graffiti by Bike Tour will offer an opportunity to snake through the mural mazes of Wynwood and the Design District alongside veritable encyclopedias of street-art knowledge Olga Cano and Dario Gonzalez, who are also green transportation activists. The pair will set off from the Allapattah Metrorail station at 10 a.m. and lead bikers through 20 stops at various murals, explaining the backstories behind our city’s unofficial outdoor art museum. The ride is free, but participants need to bring their own bikes, and children 16 and younger are required to wear helmets.
