If you’ve got a weak spot for Whoppers and Big Fish sammies, it’s likely you commit some serious gym time as penance. But why relegate yourself to a stuffy sweatbox when you can burn off your fave foods, help charity, and spend some QT in the great outdoors? Burger King’s annual Beach Run 5K does all of the above while benefiting South Florida’s graduating high school seniors.
The family-friendly race course will start at Lummus Park (Ocean Drive at Seventh Street in Miami Beach), weave its way west toward Washington Avenue and along Lincoln Road (where hung-over tourists can gawk at your neon running shorts), and then back oceanside and on the boardwalk, followed by a triumphant return to the sand.
The race will also feature a fun zone with interactive inflatables, live music, a DJ, fitness classes, and a college fair for future university scholars. Oh, and a kiddie dash, so the wee ones don’t have to shame you with their youthful speed. There’ll also be awards for top male and female, plus medals for the top three in each age group.
Good karma, glory, and calorie burning — what more could you ask for on a Saturday morning? Other than an Egg ’n’ Cheese Croissan’wich, that is.
The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Entry fees are $30 for individuals ($40 on race day), $10 for students ($20 on race day), and $5 for kiddie dash participants ($10 on race day). Visit bkfunrun.com.
