To hear the internet tell it, Florida is a bizarre hellscape of human depravity and all sorts of unspeakable evils. Floridians, however, tend to like living in this hellscape, thank you very much. It turns out residents of other states are the ones who want to get the hell out.
Gallup asked residents of all 50 states a few simple questions: Is your state the best, or at least one of the best states to live in? Or is your state the worst to live in?
Only 11 percent of Floridians said Florida was the best state to live in. That might sound low, but it's actually on the higher end of the average. Texas had the highest number of residents who think their state is the best, with 28 percent. However, the vast majority of states had responses somewhere in the mid-single digits to mid-teens.
Another 46 percent of Floridians said Florida was one of the best states to live. Again, that's pretty average. Florida had the 23rd highest rate of people who agreed with the statement, while 77 percent of people in Montana and Alaska said their state was one of the best to live in, the highest responses. Just 3 percent of Rhode Island residents said their state was one of the best to live in.
Meanwhile, only 4 percent of Floridians said Florida was the absolute worst state to live in. Apparently giant invasive snakes and unstable meth heads don't have much of an affect on quality of life.
A whole 25 percent of Illinois residents said their state was the worst. That's one in four. Also miserable were the 17 percent of Rhode Islanders and Connecticuters who said their state was the worst.
So there you have it. Floridians are pretty chill with living in Florida.
