Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness once made the U.S. Supreme
Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for
Miami New Times. This week, Luke calls out Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado.
Miami really needs to get rid of Mayor Tomas Regalado. It's time to recall
his ass. Last week, while being interviewed by Spanish-language TV
station Channel 41, America Teve, he proclaimed that cops sweeping for
criminals in Overtown, Liberty City, and Little Haiti would "meet
violence with violence." Watch the clip for yourself.
He didn't make that comment during any of his
interviews with the English-speaking media outlets because he knows he's
talking to a different audience in Spanish.
How in hell can he, the top elected official in the city, justify that the
police meet violence with violence? What happened to "serve and
protect"?
Every police training academy teaches future cops that using
their firearms is a last resort.
But Regalado wants to turn Miami's
inner city into his personal Iraq. He is the one responsible for turning
the police loose in District 5, where cops shot a 16-year-old boy they
claim pulled a gun on them two weeks ago.
Last week the same officer who shot the teenager was involved in the gun battle that killed another
young man Miami police claim was armed with a shotgun.
The folks living
in those condos on Brickell Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard better make
sure little Bobby ain't running around the streets with a water pistol,
or else he might end up shot by a police officer.
The
mayor doesn't seem to realize there is an entity called the U.S.
Department of Justice to deal with people like him. The DOJ has come to
Miami before to root out corrupt cops who planted guns on suspects after
they were shot.
If Regalado is not careful, he might find himself in
the middle of an investigation at a time the city is already reeling
from a federal probe into Miami's finances.
