British-born singer-songwriter Seal is on tour to promote Soul, his sixth studio recording, and one that features covers of classics such as Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come, James Brown's It's a Man's World, and Ben E. King's Stand by Me. This Wednesday Seal will take his spot under the lights at the Fillmore and show this town its his right to fill such big, soulful shoes.
This is not the first time Seal has tackled music by other composers. He has remade tunes such as Mona Lisa (for the soundtrack to Mona Lisa Smile) and Fly Like an Eagle, but this is the first time he has used an entire disc to pay tribute to a musical genre. He has stated in interviews he was motivated to make the album after the positive response he got from the release of A Change Is Gonna Come, which once again became an anthem as Barack Obama's presidential candidacy became a reality.
Youll see and hear how Seal's velvety baritone fits the classic tunes like a glove. Listening to If You Don't Know Me by Now and I've Been Loving You Too Long is enough to give anyone goose bumps.
