Halloween is that rare celebration that can be equally exciting for adults and kids. We think it's because of the costumes, which are fun for everyone. And then there are the treats, which only get better as you age. If you think the sugar rush from candy corn is a blast when you're 10 years old, just wait till you get trashed on appletinis as an grownup! Don't get us started on the tricks — there will be lots of those strolling around Coconut Grove and South Beach tonight. Thankfully there are plenty of Halloween happenings to enjoy, regardless of your age.

If you want to get dressed up and hit the town with the fam, head out to Coral Gables for the tenth annual Halloween on the Mile. The event offers a safe place for trick-or-treating, as well as a costume contest, a scavenger hunt, and lots of ghoulish photo opportunities. It takes place along Miracle Mile this afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00, and the haunted house will be open from 5:00 to 9:00. Visit www.shopcoralgables.com for details.

For a dose of things that go bump in the night, venture out on Arch Creek's Ghost Tour. Meet at the Arch Creek Museum (1855 NE 135th St., North Miami) at 7:30 p.m., and a tour guide will introduce you to the spooky and mysterious history of the park and its paranormal reputation. Admission is three bucks, and reservations are required. Call 305-944-6111.

If you like your costumes with an anime influence, head straight to Sushi Samba (600 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) for its Harajuku Spooktacular festivities. The restaurant's usual Cosplay Tuesday party will spill over into today, and there'll be special Halloween-theme cocktails to celebrate the occasion. Jack O'tinis for everyone! Call 305-673-5337, or visit www.sushisamba.com.

At Circa28 (2826 N. Miami Ave., Miami), the cool kids will be breakin' it down at the Haunted MeZuhneen, a costume party/concert where Alucard, Gatoe Xango, and Outereach will perform. Admission is free. Visit www.myspace.com/blissfulfrequencies.

Oh, and if your kids come home with more treats than you can stuff in a piñata, take them to the office of Dr. Howard J. Hoffman (21110 Biscayne Blvd., Aventura). Donate your extra candy the day after Halloween between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m., and the good doctor will pay you a dollar per pound. All the candy is going to be shipped to our Halloween-deprived troops overseas, and you'll score a sweet glowing toothbrush in return.
