We’d like to assume that most of Miami is Netflixing their monthly quota of high-quality art films. Lord knows there aren’t enough options when it comes to finding a decent screening of non-Hollywood fare. We’d be lost without the Miami Beach Cinematheque and the efforts of Dr. Edward J. Reninger. Reninger is the chairman and organizer of the Classic/Foreign Film Discussion Group, a nonprofit collective that meets every month to enjoy and analyze movies that are significant to the evolution of the art form.

This month cineastes can look forward to screenings of Avant-Garde Experimental Cinema of the Twenties and Thirties. Sounds sleep-inducing, but some of the films expected to be screened were made by artists like Orson Welles, Hans Richter, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray. A $3.50 donation and a reservation are all that is required for admission. The screening takes place from noon to 4:30 p.m. in room 155, building one at Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay campus.
Sat., May 12, 4:30 p.m.
