Friday is here and, as always, there's a lot of good stuff going on this weekend.
For starters, how about a loaf of warm, freshly baked bread to start your day? Or maybe you'd rather top off your Friday with a few fritas and cocktails with friends at a kick-ass happy hour?
If you prefer to go swanky, there's the Veritage Miami interactive dinner. Not to worry if you can't rub two nickels together, because we've got free grilled cheese sammies for you too.

Veritage Miami
Tonight is the ultra-swanky Veritage Miami Interactive Dinner at the InterContinental Miami, where five of Miami's best chefs (Alberto Cabrera, Cesar Zapata, Giorgio Rapicavoli,Todd Erickson, and Jose Mendin) will each help guests cook a course. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., and tickets cost a (swanky) $500 apiece. Of course, because it's called Veritage, there's wine involved. Tomorrow, April 12, there will be a wine dinner at Marlins Park, where you can "eat and drink the bases" while listening to Kristin Chenoweth (of Wicked fame) perform. Frita Friday at Bread + Butter
Here's how to start the weekend, kids. Tonight, meet the gang at Bread + Butter in Coral Gables for their brand-new Frita Friday happy hour. From 5 to 7 p.m., chomp down on $3 fritas. There's also a bunch of other snacks, priced from $3 to $5, such as Hialeah-style warm peanut cones, fried chicken thighs drizzled with Buffalo honey sauce, and house-made beef jerky. Then have a few beer and wine cocktails created by one of Miami's best barkeeps, Rob Montero. They're only three bucks.
Freshly Baked Bread
Mmmm. Can't you just smell the sweet, yeasty aroma of warm bread fresh out of the oven? Wait. You say the prepackaged bread you usually buy comes with no such heavenly scent? Drop that loaf and get to Great Harvest Bread Company for its grand opening today, April 11, and experience what real bread, made from wheat ground daily, tastes like. While you're there, pick up some scones and sandwiches for lunch.
The bakery is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Free Sammies for National Grilled Cheese Day
Did you know April 12 is National Grilled Cheese Day? That's a real holiday, celebrating all things gooey, warm, and cheesy. How to celebrate? Get to Daily Melt in midtown at noon Saturday, and if you're one of the first 100 people, you'll be rewarded with a free grilled cheese sammie and a shot of soup. On second thought, better get there early. The soup sealed the deal!
