As I mentioned before, I was going to try Rena Greenberg's Gastric Bypass Hypnosis Surgery program, a non-invasive tool to help me lose weight.

The program consists of several CDs, one of which is the actual "surgery." Greenberg's voice guides you through the experience of having gastric bypass surgery so that your subconscious mind believes that you actually had the surgery, resulting in your firm belief that your stomach is now the size of a golf ball.

The experience is described in explicit detail -- surgeon, nurses, anesthesiologists, operating room -- the whole shebang. After listening to the CD (during which I was relaxed yet fully awake) I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about the "hypnosis" diet.

The answer so far is yes. After listening to the initial CD (which is then followed by listening to the reinforcement CD at least once a day thereafter), I felt an immediate change in my body. Let my clarify that -- I actually noticed a change in my mind.

When I went to eat breakfast the next day, I was satisfied with several bites of food, as opposed to an entire breakfast. To give you an idea, let's say that I normally eat two eggs, two strips of bacon, and a slice of sugar-free wheat bread. After listening to the disc, I was satisfied with one egg and one slice of bacon.

I was really surprised (see skeptical above) that my mind had actually accepted the fact that I needed less food to feel satisfied, but it did. When I would get hungry throughout the day, I would eat a few bites of food and feel satisfied, not full, not stuffed, but satisfied. I was just no longer hungry.

I'll admit that I have not used the reinforcement CD as much as I should, and because of that I have been able to drink a diet soda here and there (the CDs also turn your mind against unhealthy food) and once drove through Sonic at midnight and picked up a junior cheeseburger (although I couldn't finish eating it).

But my eating habits have greatly changed. I eat three really small meals a day and have started taking walks (she also reinforces the fact that we need to care for our bodies). My official weight loss is at 22 pounds as of yesterday. So far, so good. I'll keep you posted with a follow-up in another two weeks.
