Dwyane Wade's Flip-up Sunglasses Actually Were Meant as a Joke

Forget all those lens-less glasses, fishing lure shirts and man purses. Dwyane Wade raised the bar on quirky NBA press conference fashion on Tuesday night by wearing flip-up sunglasses. Lest you think Wade has lost his damned mind and thought they just looked fly as hell (well, OK, he kind of did), be aware they actually were meant as a joke spurred on by a Jimmy Kimmel Live segment.

The glasses were an intentional shout-out to "A Different World" character Dwayne Wayne played by actor Kadeem Hardison. The Cosby Show spin-off character wore flip-up sunglasses as his trademark.

So to review: Dwayne Wayne

Dwyane Wade:

The fashion choice was actually in reaction to a Jimmy Kimmel Live segment. Kimmel sent "correspondent" Guillermo to NBA Media Day where he constantly referred to Wade as Dwayne Wayne. The interaction starts at the 2:00 minute mark.

Forget what we said about the Heat dressing a bit more warrior-like for the Finals. This is actually pretty great.

Could you imagine what was going through Wade's minds in the last minutes of Game 4?

"Damn it, I've got those glasses to wear tonight and I am not going out there in those damned things to talk about a loss. Flip-up sunglasses are strictly for winners. LeBron's out. I've gotta protect this win. I've gotta protect this fashion statement. I don't even have to score, I just have to stop the Thunder from scoring. Because dammit, I am wearing those glasses tonight."

Which maybe explains why he played like a defensive ninja in the final minute.

We can only imagine what outfit Wade has picked out to address the media during his potential second Championship win tonight.
