Jessica Simpson's Dad Is Gay, Divorcing Mama Simpson

Jessica Simpson has really been put through the pop culture wringer.

She built a career around her supposed-to-be fairy tale marriage to 98 Degrees crooner Nick Lachey. And then they got divorced.

Ever since, Jessica hasn't been able to escape the merciless crosshairs of every tabloid Gollum with a lust for manufacturing an entire 24 hour news cycle out of the pop princess's fluctuating weight.

Not to mention the basic bullshit afflicting every Top 40 starlet, including the whole virgin/whore identity crises induced by your audience's simultaneous demand that you be slutty enough for men (ages 18-35) while somehow remaining a good role model for young girls (ages 6-17).

Oh, and now her dad is (allegedly) gay.

Now, there's no problem with Joe Simpson coming out of the closet. In fact, Crossfade says, "Good for him!"

Still, Jess must be bummed to see her family breaking up.

At the end of September, Mama Simpson filed for divorce at the end of September, citing "discord or conflict of personalities," after Papa Simpson reportedly came clean with his family about digging dudes.

According to an insider who spoke with media queen Perez Hilton:

"Joe got the family together about two months ago and came out of the closet. He told them that he'd tried to continue in his marriage to Tina, but he couldn't go on any longer and deny the fact that he had these feelings for men. Joe said it wasn't fair to her, and it wasn't fair to him."

Well ... Good luck, Joe. Love is complicated. We've all been there. And ultimately, you just gotta give in.

As your daughter once sang on "I Wanna Love You Forever," her romantic '90s classic: "I never thought I'd fall/Be at the mercy of a man ... [But] pour yourself all over me/And I'll cherish every drop here on my knees."
