Since Miami is probably the only major city founded by a woman, its residents should have a strong connection to their feminine side. Unfortunately Julia Tuttle isn’t the person who comes to mind when we think of the prototypical Miami woman. Yes, it takes strength to carry pounds of silicone while walking in three-inch stilettos, but we would like to add a little substance to the image of our town’s leading ladies. That’s why we’re observing Women’s History Month tonight from 6 to 8 during a free panel discussion, Celebrating HerStory, at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida.

Moderated by community leaders Marty Grafton and Mary Young, the discussion will focus on the pioneering women who have shaped the history of Miami-Dade County. Panelists include historians, archivists, and some of the women who are making history right here, right now. Call 305-375-5356 to RSVP, or visit www.hmsf.org.
