Mimosa yellow. Painted lady. You might think these are frozen drinks garnished with orange twists, but they’re actually butterflies. You know the myth: that a single flap from a butterfly’s wings can start a hurricane 3,000 miles away. While we can’t prove the existence of the Butterfly Effect, we can say, without a doubt, they are beautiful creatures. And this Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will devote its grounds to exploring the colorful world of the Lepidoptera.

Fly (or drive) over to the sixth annual Butterfly Days, where you can take a guided tour that explains everything from butterfly mating habits to the plants you need to grow your own butterfly garden. There will also be butterfly poetry by Melissa Contreras. Admission is free for Fairchild members and children under 5, $10 for children 6 to 17, $15 for seniors, and $20 for adults.
Sat., July 25, 9:30 a.m.; Sun., July 26, 9:30 a.m., 2009
