Chefs are a competitive breed. It’s one thing to eat the food they’ve expertly crafted in their own kitchens; it’s another to dig into a plate designed specifically to outshine their colleagues. At the Homestead Rockin’ Ribfest, you can watch seven all-star ribbers go head-to-head for eternal, pork-rific glory. Competitors include Big Pig BBQ, Huckleberry Hillbilly BBQ, Charlie’s Rib Shack, M & M BBQ, Harvey’s Smokehouse BBQ, Smoke and Spice, and T & W BBQ. The pork masters will be judged by local notables including Miami-Dade County Commissioner/Vice Chair Lynda Bell and Doug “Dougie” Hitchcock from Thunder Country 100.3. In addition to the obvious (ribs, duh), they’ll have chicken, brisket, pulled pork, roast corn, cotton candy, kettle corn, snow cones, and plenty of other eats on sale that’ll put last week’s Thanksgiving dinner to shame. Local bands, demos, vendors for Christmas shopping, and a kids’ fun zone round out the country-fair-inspired diversions. Bonus: Your epic gluttony benefits a good cause. Twenty five percent of proceeds will go to local charities, so you’ll be doing a good deed while feeding your pork addiction.
