They may not answer the door, but these hosts aren't shy. The only thing that's guaranteed during a visit to this haunted house extravaganza is that someone will be home. Featuring one house for children and another for teens and adults, Boo! at FIU is open to anyone in the community. From 6 p.m. to midnight this Friday, the celebration will encompass all things Halloween, including "Thriller" performances and ghostly games. Both houses — located in the Panther Suites inside the U.S. Century Bank Arena at Florida International University’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus (11200 SW Eighth St., Miami) — will be stalked by vampires, witches, zombies, ghosts, and ghouls. A DJ will provide playful background music for all costumed contestants, rock climbers, bounce-house jumpers, dunk-tank players, and mechanical-bull riders. FIU’s marching band will also perform, as will a dancing group led by Jamie Bernard. Food and refreshments will be available from various vendors. The Halloween-night entertainment marks the launch of FIU’s Continuing and Professional Education After School Care Program, a new enrichment scheme for 5-to-14-year-olds. Admission costs $10; children under 3 get in free. Call 305-348-4837 or email [email protected]. To reserve tickets, visit afterschool.fiu.edu.
