It’s almost over, Cultist readers. After today, we’ll no longer inundate you with reminders about our MasterMind Awards, and how great they are, and how you should submit to them right this second because honestly, and we’re not just saying this, but you are, like, talented and stuff, and you deserve $1,000 for it.
But seriously, Miami: You are talented and stuff, and you do deserve the cash and recognition MasterMind has to offer. So if you haven’t already, get those submissions in before the day’s over and you have a whole year to wallow in poverty and obscurity before you have another chance.
In years past, the MasterMind awards have helped out some pretty
impressive folks. The Borscht Film Festival used its winnings to submit
its films to festivals like Cannes and Sundance, essentially introducing
Borscht to the international film community. Jorge Rubiera took our
cash and gave us (and the rest of the world) Birdwatchers in
return. And before Roofless Records became the recipient of a Knight
Foundation grant, we gave the label a boost with award monies of our
own.
Just about any Miami-based, arts-minded person or organization can apply
for MasterMind award consideration: painters, sculptors, installation
artists, musicians, filmmakers, poets, performance artists and beyond.
But you can’t sit around and wait for us to find you. To apply, send us
the following information:

Your name
- Contact info: phone, email, and home address

Email all of the above to
masterminds@miaminewtimes.com by January 20. Finalists will be announced
