With Starbucks runs and Game of Thrones marathons and Instagram feeds occupying our every moment, we rarely take the time to stop and smell the roses. Or the birds of paradise. Or the corpse flowers.
But Miami-based author Michael Largo’s new masterpiece, The Big Bad Book of Botany, will teach you everything you need to know about the plant kingdom. Best of all, the book’s quirky, entertaining descriptions are paired with black-and-white illustrations hand-drawn by members of Miami’s Tropical Botanic Artists.
At Thursday’s reception, you can check out some of these lovely original works in the exhibit “Tropical Botanic Artists: Bizarre Botany” plus get your book signed by Largo himself.
From resurrection ferns to cucumbers to oleander, they’re our flora friends like you’ve never seen them. This way, next time you stop to admire a leafy branch, you might actually know what you’re looking at.
