On April 23, 2016, Fort Pierce police pulled over 21-year-old Demarcus Semer, believing he was speeding. Twelve minutes later, he was dead. Sgt. Brian MacNaught had shot Semer in the back as he ran away. A grand jury cleared MacNaught and the second officer, Ralph Holmes, of wrongdoing, finding that the officers reasonably feared for their lives after Semer clipped Holmes with his car while trying to flee the stop. These evidence photos were provided by the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, which investigated the shooting.
