Fairchild Tropical Garden, the 83 -acre oasis of plants, butterflies and art, is offering free admission (normally $25 for adults) this Sunday and every remaining Sunday in August. What does this have to do with food? A lot, actually.

The Lakeside Cafe is a calming place to indulge in breakfast or lunch. A dozen made to order sandwiches include pastrami Ruben, Black Forest ham and brie, and veggie wraps. All choices are $7.95 and are custom made, so allow a wait time of at least ten minutes and watch the flowers grow. The handcrafted tropical sodas are especially cooling after walking in the Miami heat. Choose from watermelon, mango, kiwi, Mandarin orange, coconut, and passionfruit ($3).

The edible garden allows you to try mangoes, tomatoes and other fruits

and vegetables grown in south Florida. Mango smoothies, made with

mangoes grown on property, are available for purchase.

And, finally, a select few food trucks will be selling their wares at

the Cycad Circle at the garden. Enjoy a grilled cheese, gelato or frozen

banana before checking out the free tram ride, free yoga or live music.
