If you're bored with the usual suspects for your morning sustenance, a few more interesting options are on the way, courtesy of the Daily Melt.
The midtown outpost of the local grilled-cheese chain is about to launch a breakfast menu, and it's celebrating by giving away 100 free morning melts next Wednesday, August 28. So what do the new sandwich selections include? It's all about the eggs. And cheese. Always cheese.
Get there between 7 and 11 a.m. and you could bite into the Turkey Bacon sammie, with egg and mozzarella on whole-wheat bread; the Canadian & Brie, with Canadian bacon, egg, and Brie cheese on a whole-wheat muffin; or the Veggie Frittata, with tomato, mushroom, spinach, onion, and provolone on sourdough.
And if you want to get a little more serious with your breakfast selections (AKA, not so figure-friendly), there's the Maple Bacon Melt, with bacon, egg, maple syrup, and cheddar on sourdough; the Egg in a Nest, bacon and Muenster grilled cheese topped with a fried egg; and the French Toast, with Nutella, fontina cheese, and cinnamon sugar. Um, yes, please.
"My breakfast creative always starts with the cheese," chef Allen Susser says about concocting his new morning menu. "That yummy, gooey factor is a basic to my Daily Melt food philosophy as a whole. Next is the perfect bread, and then all the trimmings in between, of course."
But what's his fave breakfast selection?
"My favorite is the Egg in a Nest. It reminds of a breakfast my mom would lovingly make on special mornings. But to make it my own, I tricked out the cheese (Muenster) and added plenty of crispy bacon. The soft, runny egg just makes it an all-around winner in my book."
Customers can also score some of the spot's lunch options with added bacon and/or an egg for an additional 99 cents. Some sweets are also on the breakfast menu, including Strawberries & Cream, with strawberry jam, mascarpone, raisin-cinnamon toast, caramel sauce, and whipped cream; and the S'more, charred marshmallow and Hershey's chocolate between two graham crackers. Breakfast will be served seven days a week beginning at 7 a.m.
So go get your free cheese next week. Beats an Egg McMuffin, right?
