Throw away the TV. Kids these days are into Saturday morning Internet, the post-millennial cartoon pipeline. They can access interactive content from around the world. There’s no need for cartoon networks; they program their own. And unless you’re a security expert, they’ve probably already figured out how to subvert any roadblocks you place between them and unrestricted access. But every kid can use some guidance as their little, uniformed, spongy brains soak up whatever’s in front of them. And it’s your job as a role model to expose them to positive, thought-provoking entertainment. So be a lazy American and let an expert do it for you. This Monday through December 31, Kid Flix Festival at the Wolfsonian will show mostly animated movies from across the globe. The festival starts Monday with a 2:30 p.m. screening of the French animated film Azur & Asmar. Other festival highlights include shorts screened at the New York International Children’s Film Festival, as well as feature-lengths from Belgium to Zimbabwe. Film diversity activates new pathways in the brain that the Hollywood experience tries to dead-end.
