Art and food came together last evening for a fundraiser to benefit both Common Threads and LegalArt.
The event, held at the LegalArt building in downtown Miami, featured food by Chow Down Grill, GastroPod, and newcomer Mad Man Jack’s Barbecue combined with mostly interactive art installations — some requiring participation before you could get to your food.
The event was the first time the two organizations teamed up for a duel event, but the symmetry worked.
“Art is food, so the chefs and artists really found it easy to work together,” noted Common Threads development manager Courtenay Strickland.
As a DJ played tunes, a video piece by artist Patricia Hernandez played, featuring kids in the Common Threads program.
Our favorite moment was the leather mouth created by artist Amy von
Harrington at the Chow Down table. Want one of those delicious roast
duck bao’s for offer by Josh Marcus? You’ve first got place your hand
inside the mouth where chef-owner Josh Marcus was waiting on the other
side to provide a little mystery before rewarding you with a tasty
morsel.
GastroPod’s Jeremiah Bullfrog served curried pork sliders
and arepitas with goat cheese and stupid slaw. (Though there were no
giant interactive mouths to place our paws into.)

Mad Man Jack’s
staff provided over sized plates filled with mesquite smoked pickled BBQ
chicken and roast pork sliders, along with double cut St. Louis style
spare rib sandwiches.
