March in Miami wasn't just about spring breakers, Ultra Music Festival, and bumper-to-bumper traffic; it was also full of awesome restaurant openings—a whopping 18, to be exact.

Kicking things off, we had the highly anticipated opening of Aviv in South Beach by the acclaimed chef Michael Solomonov, who brought his Mediterranean cuisine inspired by Tel Aviv to the 1 Hotel South Beach. Then came the opening of Maple & Ash in downtown Miami, the high-end Chicago steakhouse that opened in downtown Miami with martinis and seafood towers, and Uchiko South Beach, serving delicious Japanese fare. But smaller restaurants opened, as well, like Mutra in North Miami, which is redefining kosher dining for a modern palate, and Novatore in Wynwood, which blends Italian tradition with modern flair, Michelin-starred chefs, and bold flavors.

For those with a sweet tooth, it was an especially exciting month. New York City's Van Leeuwen ice cream made its Florida debut on March 20 in Miami Beach with its signature French-style ice cream (including a special Key Lime Pie flavor crafted just for Miami in collaboration with Fireman Derek's Bake Shop). Meanwhile, Parlor Doughnuts opened in Fort Lauderdale on March 15, selling its famous layered, croissant-like doughnuts in various fun flavors.

Hungry yet? Let's dig into the 18 new spots across Miami, Fort Lauderdale — and even down to the Florida Keys.
