South Floridians will return to the streets this week to protest what they call a "billionaire takeover" of the federal government under President Donald Trump.

Starting on International Workers' Day — a frequent day of demonstrations for labor groups around the world — tens of thousands of protesters will rally at state capitals and federal buildings nationwide against Trump's "war on working people." The rallies are part of the May Day 2025 movement, which appears to be at least partially organized by the same folks behind the 50501 (Fifty-Fifty-One) movement, which has recently held protests across South Florida.

According to a map shared by organizers, more than 1,100 demonstrations are planned in 1,000 cities in all 50 U.S. states.

"Trump and his billionaire profiteers are trying to create a race to the bottom — on wages, on benefits, on dignity itself. This May Day we are fighting back," organizers wrote on a May Day 2025 website. "We are demanding a country that puts our families over their fortunes — public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, prosperity over free market politics."
