Last week, New Times reported on the heartbreaking news that the Brickell babes are struggling amid the ongoing closure of the Brickell Key baywalk. The highly popular walking path is closed for the foreseeable future because of the ongoing construction at the Mandarin Oriental and the repairs of the Brickell Key Bridge. So, for now, only island residents have access to the Key.
"This is a temporary measure designed to reduce congestion and ensure that our community remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone," the Brickell Key Master Association wrote in an email, which someone screenshotted and shared in a Brickell Facebook group.
As we know, the girlies are not doing great. They have lost their place to take an afternoon stroll and sip on their matcha from Maman. Many have expressed their profound sadness on TikTok.
"This construction hurts more than a heartbreak tbh💔," one user posted on TikTok.
"Those of you who don't know they closed the Brickell Key walkway and it will probably remain closed either through December 25 or January of 2026. So now, where are we walking?" another wrote on the social media app.
While New Times reported on how the girlies are holding up during the ongoing closure, we evidently failed to note how the men are feeling, as readers pointed out on our Instagram. They feel underrepresented in the matter. In fact, Brickell Key is not just for the girlies. According to our readers, the Brickell bros, who also miss their favorite walking path, are devastated.
So let's take a moment to commemorate the hot boy walk.
"We all are," a user wrote.
"The lads are down bad too," one Instagram user commented. "Don't worry."
Another added, "The girlies?! Every dog owner too and topless men."
One user chimed in, "Saw that during the run. This sucks. I had a few great walks with some friends the past year or so."
A user also brought up the matter on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
"Not just the girlies!"
The City of Miami is repairing the 52-year-old bridge that connects the island to mainland Brickell during the closure. The project is expected to be completed in late December or early 2026, putting the baywalk in jeopardy for at least several months.
Stay strong, Brickell. Bros and girlies alike.
