Different Strokes: Cheeky Canvases Is a One-of-a-Kind Art Class

The old saying goes that there are "different strokes for different folks," and the South Florida art class Cheeky Canvases proves the point. These paint-and-sip events involve stroking derrieres — with paintbrushes, of course.

Think of these adult art classes as "Bob Ross-meets-burlesque," with a healthy dose of body positivity and sexual empowerment. Founded by artsy local Kelly Perez, each session aims to bring people together through a mix of vulnerability and humor.

"I wanted to blend creativity with sexy fun and just the right touch of educational mischief," she says. "We don't just paint — we explore, we vibe, we laugh, and yes...we talk about sex toys, too."

From the art supplies to the muses themselves, each Cheeky Canvases event includes all the staples of a classic paint-and-sip, but there are some spicy twists: There may even be a naughty party favor to take home with you. Guests follow along as an artist paints the body of a nude model, while educators chat about pleasure products with participants in a fun, stigma-free environment.

"South Florida is the perfect playground for something like this," says Perez. "People here are always looking for new experiences that are a little bit wild, a little bit unexpected, and a whole lot of fun."

She offers some reassurance for folks who are curious but intimidated by talking about sex in public or painting with a nude model present.

"You don't need to be an artist. You don't need to be a 'sexpert.' Just show up with an open mind," she says. "No pressure, no judgment, and definitely no boring energy...Even the shyest person is giggling by the end of the night because we break down barriers, answer real questions, and make everyone feel seen, safe, and celebrated."

After taking a slight hiatus in search of a proper venue, the group's next event on Saturday, July 27, at the Revelry in Pompano Beach, dubbed "Art After Dark," promises to be its boldest yet.

"We're flying in our incredibly talented featured artist, Milenka, all the way from Oregon," says Perez. "She brings a fierce, empowering style that embodies the Cheeky Canvases spirit. And yes, we'll have a gorgeous live burlesque model who'll be part of the creative action."
