Brick, one of Wynwood’s longest-running bars, is calling it a night. The open-air spot on Northwest 28th Street announced over the weekend that it will close after 11 years, with its last day set for Saturday, November 1.

“As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end,” the post read. “After an unforgettable 11 years, it’s time for us to say goodbye.”

For more than a decade, Brick was the reliable weekend stop in a neighborhood that’s since traded graffiti and warehouse grit for velvet ropes and high-end restaurants. The 1920s house and patio was filled with hip-hop, reggae, and dancehall sets, drawing a crowd that came to dance, not for the bottle sparklers.

The End of Old Wynwood

When Brick opened in 2013, Brick was part of a loose group of party spots that defined early Wynwood nights, think Wood Tavern, Gramps, and Electric Pickle. Back then, you could still find parking and know most of the people you saw on the dance floor.

Now, like many others before it, Brick is closing as the neighborhood that built it continues to shift toward the big and corporate names. Its farewell post thanked “every DJ who kept the energy alive” and every guest “who walked through our doors and made Brick what it is.”

“All my South Florida good spots are closed. Purdy, Café Iguanas, Brick, Wood Tavern, Opium. Redevelopment kills nightlife,” commented a frustrated person on Brick’s closing announcement post.

The announcement’s comment quickly filled with notes expressing disappointment and sadness. “Y’all were the last spot holding the last of old Wynwood together,” wrote @ftbilhxo. Another person added, “All my South Florida good spots are closed. Purdy, Café Iguanas, Brick, Wood Tavern, Opium. Redevelopment kills nightlife.”

@djcamilo thanked the venue for “amazing times,” while @walshyfire called it “the final place for real Miami people.” @kcchopz called Brick “a cultural staple” that belongs in “the Miami Hall of Fame of venues.”

Some comments got personal. “I met my husband here eight years ago,” wrote @amazingcosi21. “We’re still going strong.” Others captured the collective sigh of anyone who’s watched Wynwood morph in real time. “It’s officially in ‘you just had to be there’ territory,” said @tribbleog.

As @bahamianpearl put it: “The only hip-hop spot in Wynwood is now gone. This is crazy.”

The post invited regulars to stop by over the next few weekends to “share a drink” and “dance one more time.” Brick’s final night of operation is set for Saturday, November 1. The owners haven’t said what will happen to the space.
