Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Friday
- Three members of Surfer Blood play Big Black-style bedlam as the band Weird Wives. They have their first Miami show tonight at Guest Lab.
- The Dogfather himself, Snoop Dog, appears at Mansion tonight. Think he’ll actually perform or just smile, toke, and nod?
- Josh Blue won the previous year’s Last Comic Standing. Tonight he starts his standup run at the Miami Improw, but you should prep first by reading our Q&A with him.
Saturday
-
Tegan and Sara, identical Canadian twins who play “moody folk-pop with
New Wave and punk undertones,” will perform at Miami’s Bayfront Park on
Saturday. They’ll be joined by Paramore. Or is it the other way around?
-
Michael Arcos’s band Jane Jane Pollock plays Sweat Records, but more interestingly, his film
Angel Eyes 2: J-Lo’s Innermost Secrets, filmed in Cutler Ridge, will
also screen the same night.
Sunday
-
Every year, people have too much to drink at Wet Willies then they ride
speedracer beds down Coconut Grove’s Grand Avenue. That’s right, this
Sunday at 2 p.m., is the Great Grove Bed Race, aptly sponsored this year
by 1-800-411-PAIN.
-
Chill out on one of Miami’s most peaceful lawns at the bayside retreat, the Deering Estate. This Sunday, they host a Labor Day Blues
Picnic so bring a blanket and chillax, guys.
-
We gave you the chance to win a free pair of tickets to Sunday’s Best of
the South Comedy Tour, starring Marvin Dixon and a cast of other funny men.
Monday
-
There’s no labor on Labor Day so laze about all day with one hand
shoved down your pants. You gotta rest up, because Carlos Mencia
performs at the Miami Improv for a one-night-only show. Keep an eye out for our two-part interview with him.
