Free Events This Week in Miami: Digital Art, Miami Stories, and Indiana Jones

For many Miami youths, today means life is officially over – or less dramatically, school is starting. We feel you. Mondays don’t get any easier as life goes on, nor does funding your desperate need for fun. That’s where we come in. Thanks to some generous local creatives and business owners, we’ve got another week’s worth of free entertainment lined up for cash-strapped kids of all ages. 

Monday

• Cuba out of Cuba: Through the Lens of Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte at MDC-MOAD: This is your last week to view this series of photographs capturing legendary figures in Cuban history in culture. 
  
• Dressing Down the Movies at Fashion Project: Enjoy another week of free films with lasting fashion impact, from The Women to Rebel Without A Cause. 
  

Tuesday

• Asif Farooq at Locust Projects: The Miami-based conceptual artist – currently in the process of meticulously reconstructing a MiG-21 Interceptor from every-day materials – joins the latest Locust Roundtable art discussion.
  
• Open Call: Web-Based Art at ICA Miami: The contemporary museum’s new exhibit highlights selected submitted digital and web-based art from both emerging and established talent, including Miami artists Willie Avendano, Jillian Mayer, and AdrienneRose.
  
• Miami Against Humanity at The New Tropic: Drink, mingle, and be wildly inappropriate – Miami style. 
  

Wednesday

• Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at Shirley’s: Don’t miss the last free summer flick at Shirley’s!
  
• Public Talk at Cannonball: Writer, curator, and current Cannonball Artist-in-Residence Christopher Cozier will present Actions Between Territories, a discussion on Caribbean artists’ navigation and construction of free spaces.
  
• Open Mic #5 at FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios: Get a big dose of local talent and self-expression at the latest Open Mic.
  
• Miami Obscura at Deauville Beach Resort: Join PechaKucha Miami in collaboration with Fordistas as six local creatives share some of the city’s unique, lesser-known tales.

• Let’s Sang! at Gramps: Croon your fave jams to a very drunk appreciative crowd.

Friday

• 9 to 5 at Wolfsonian: The final showing in the Ladies Leading Film Series is a must for all the working women of Miami – and ensemble comedy fans everywhere.
  
• Women, Art, and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise at Wolfsonian: Take the free guided tour of exhibitions to view this display before its closing on Sunday. 
  
• Organic Wines & Paired Pinchos at Whole Foods Miami Beach: Start your Friday evening right with some eco-friendly vino.
