Chef Ze Carlos Jimenez is planning to expand the MexZican Gourmet as a brick and mortar restaurant in South Miami.

At first, Jimenez was planning to expand by opening another food truck but decided on a small restaurant instead. When he passed by a vacant restaurant in South Miami, he knew that was the right spot.

The location is the former crepe restaurant on U.S. 1, next to

Einstein’s. The restaurant will seat about 100 people, with 12 to 14 tables

inside and an additional 10 outside. The intimate location is perfect

for Jimenez, who said, “With a small location I can take care of all my

customers.”

The restaurant will expand on the tacos and quesadillas served on

the truck. Though the menu is still being finalized, Jimenez will

stick to his “simply authentic” Mexican concept. The restaurant will also serve beer and wine.

“I lived 45 minutes from Mexico City, so the restaurant will give me the

chance to serve food that I grew up with,” said Jimenez. “On the

weekends I’m going to do a lot of specials from different regions in

Mexico”.

Look for the MexZican Gourmet to open around the end of September. If

you can’t wait, seek out the truck at various Miami roundups.
