On a recent visit to the Starbucks on Lincoln Road and Meridian Avenue, we spotted a countdown calendar, much like the ones leading to Christmas. What was this pink sign marking the days until?

The availability of La Boulange pastries at Miami-area Starbucks. The coffee giant has teamed with San Francisco bakery La Boulange to bring their pastries to Starbucks stores after acquiring the beloved bakery and cafe for $100 million back in 2012.

Since then, Starbucks has been slowly rolling out the pastries in several key cities including New York; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Orlando, and even Naples, Fla. Now, Miami area stores are set to receive their first batch of croissants, savory tomato and cheese squares, and cheese danish on June 3.

According to Starbucks, the pastries are made with simple ingredients including wheat, grains, eggs, milk and sea salt. And the croissants? They’re “true French croissants, made with 100 percent butter.”

Of course, that old chestnut “you can’t make everyone happy” applies here. A recent Bloomberg article noted that some fans of Starbucks’ old pastries, like iced lemon loaf and pumpkin scones, weren’t happy with the new line so Starbucks has relented and will keep some favorite standards on the menu. (Because who doesn’t love a slice of iced lemon loaf?)

Miami will soon be able to decide for itself with the pastries coming to local stores on or before June 3. Miami, by the way, is one of the last cities to receive the new pastries, with all-out countrywide domination set to be complete by July 2014.
