Popular sushi restaurant Midorie is set to expand to West Palm Beach this fall, bringing its no-frills, high-quality approach to Japanese cuisine beyond its original Coconut Grove location. The restaurant, part of restauranteur Alvaro Perez Miranda's growing portfolio of Japanese dining destinations (he's also known as the "Omakase King" of Miami), is known for its fresh, Tokyo-sourced ingredients, minimalist approach, and a $100 omakase that has earned a devoted following.

A first look at Midorie’s upcoming West Palm Beach location, set to bring its signature high-quality sushi and minimalist aesthetic to Flamingo Park this fall.

Perez Miranda—who also owns the Michelin-starred Ogawa in Little River, Wynwood's Hiyakawa, and Shorecrest's Wabi Sabi—introduced Midorie in 2021 with a simple yet ambitious goal: to make excellent sushi more accessible without sacrificing quality. "The idea was to create a blueprint that could expand without compromising what makes it special," Perez Miranda shared with New Times in a prior interview. "People shouldn't have to choose between great sushi and a casual setting—they can have both."Though details on the new space's design and menu will be revealed closer to the opening, the essence of Midorie will remain unchanged. "This isn't about volume," Perez Miranda explains. "It's about getting everything right—sourcing, technique, hospitality." That last point is key: the restaurateur sees Midorie as a reflection of the Japanese concept of kikubari, or the art of caring for others.
The Original Midorie is the Blueprint for What's to Come
The original Midorie, tucked into a courtyard on Coconut Grove's Main Highway, operates with a lean, quality-first philosophy. A handful of outdoor tables and a 10-seat sushi bar set the stage for a menu focused on fresh sushi, hand rolls, donburi bowls, and its now-signature omakase offering. The upcoming West Palm Beach location, opening in Flamingo Park, will follow the same model. This is just the beginning. Perez Miranda has expressed plans to open as many as 20 Midorie locations, scaling what he calls a "high-quality, small-footprint" model. Given his track record—Ogawa earned a Michelin star in its first year and was recently named the highest-rated fine-dining restaurant in America—Midorie's expansion seems poised to take off.
For now, West Palm Beach gets the first taste. More details will be announced in the coming months, but one thing is certain: Midorie proves that top-tier sushi doesn't have to be exclusive.
