A decade after starting as a small pop-up in St. Augustine called Odd Birds Cocktail Lounge and Kitchen, craft cocktail makers Odd Birds have opened Odd Birds Miami Cocktails & Bites in the Little Havana neighborhood. The new pop-up, located at 925 SW Eighth St., marks the brand's ten-year milestone and introduces its Latin-inspired drink menu to Miami and South Florida for the very first time.

Operating inside of Pocho’s Express in conjunction with Colombian restaurant Sanpocho, Odd Birds Miami Cocktails & Bites is open daily from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m., adding a new late-night option to the area's food and drink scene.

A Decade of Craft Cocktails

Founded in 2015 by Cesar Diaz and Asdrubal Martinez, Odd Birds started as a pop-up in downtown St. Augustine. After working in the nightlife industry, the pair recognized the need for a space where customers could sip on spirits and cocktails with knowledgeable bartenders. "It's absolutely surreal that we're celebrating ten years of Odd Birds," Diaz says. "We've made it through hurricanes, a worldwide pandemic, and personal and professional challenges, and here we are."

After finding success as a pop-up, Odd Birds moved to a larger space on Anastasia Island in 2020, featuring outdoor and indoor areas, dining, an events space, and a hidden speakeasy. In Miami, plans are also in development for a Café La Trova bar takeover, plus the location will feature special appearances by guest bartenders from the World's 50 Best Bars list.

"We're looking forward to meshing our vibe with the amazing atmosphere of Calle Ocho," Diaz said. "We want our space to be a place where the community can come together and bond over a great cocktail."

Creative Cocktail Program

The menu features drinks highlighting Latin American spirits with fresh ingredients and unexpected combinations. The "Amparito" mixes Colombian sugar cane spirit with watermelon and celery bitters, while "Don't Mess with Messi" pairs Fernet Branca with pineberry sage.

Flight options for those wanting to sample multiple spirits include "Cocuy Lovers" and "Always Agave," featuring selections from regions like Durango and Oaxaca.

True to Odd Birds tradition, guests can opt for the "Bartender's Call" — an experience where bartenders create custom one-of-a-kind cocktails tailored to each guest's preferences.

Little Havana Collaborations

The Miami outpost has partnered with Sanpocho, which serves traditional Colombian fare. Sanpocho's owner, Amparo Valencia, and her family have created a food menu of small bites to accompany Odd Birds' custom cocktails.

Menu items include a "Cuban Trio" with slow-roasted pork on sweet Hawaiian rolls, black bean hummus served with plantain chips, and a lobster roll trio featuring Maine lobster. Other options include a tuna tostado with sushi-grade yellowfin tuna and house poke sauce or the "Cachapa," a sweet corn pancake stuffed with queso and mozzarella.
