It's finally February, everybody, and, whew, was January a long month. On a national scale, January saw the inauguration of President Trump, the catastrophic forest fires in California, historic cold fronts that reached the Sunshine State (iguanas fell from trees), and a tragic mid-air collision over the Potomac River. On a local level, Miami braced for its own challenges, including the new reality of ICE raids — potentially even at area schools.

Despite these challenges, our city is entering the year unified and vibrant — and local businesses, such as restaurants and bars, truly are the driving force and backbone of our city, culture, and economy. Since New Times' monthly November 2024 restaurant openings story was published, dozens of wonderful restaurants have opened in the Magic City, including Toronto-based hotspot Mimi Chinese, which opened in South Beach with a bang, and Palm Tree Club, the new restaurant-bar-resort club hybrid that took over the former Shuckers in North Bay Village. December also saw the highly anticipated opening of Carbone Vino in the heart of Coconut Grove, ushering in an entirely new clientele to the hotspot — that even welcomes walk-ins — as well as Sra. Martinez in Coral Gables, chef Michelle Bernstein's grand return of her beloved Spanish restaurant.

In January, the Magic City welcomed critically acclaimed chef Michael White's opening of Mika at the Plaza Coral Gables and Bistro 8, the new restaurant on Calle Ocho that fuses Mexican and French flavors.

But if you feel like you've been living under a rock since the holidays, don't fret. New Times has you covered on every single restaurant, bar, and hidden speakeasy that has opened in Miami and Fort Lauderdale between December 1, 2024, and February 1, 2025. Now, take out your iPhone notes app and get busy writing down the spots you want to book on Resy, OpenTable, or by calling the restaurant directly. (We won't judge you, boomer.) ¡Salud!
