Can't Get Into Carbone Miami? Its Sister Restaurant Is Opening in Coconut Grove

For those who haven't been able to book a reservation at Carbone in South Beach (or don't want to make the trek to the Beach to try the famous spicy rigatoni), New Times has great news for you: its sister restaurant is opening this December in Coconut Grove — and this time they'll accept walk-ins.

According to Bloomberg, Major Food Group's sister restaurant to Carbone, Carbone Vino, will open on December 7 at 2911 Grand Ave. in the heart of Coconut Grove. The restaurant, located near CocoWalk, will be the group’s first standalone Vino. (The original opened in Dallas as an extension of Carbone Dallas. This Vino is more removed.)

Carbone Vino will serve Carbone classics, such as the "Caesar alla ZZ" and the nationally renowned spicy rigatoni, and will be especially wine-forward. It's also got a bunch of new dishes in store.

Although prices will remain along the same lines as Carbone Miami, the new spot promises to be a little easier to check out in terms of walk-ins, bar seating, and reservations in general. (At Carbone Miami, bar seating isn't available.)

Bloomberg states that the menu will feature "Spaghetti Bambini" and pumpkin agnolotti, which is a seasonal pasta dish featuring pumpkin agnolotti coated in a delicious brown-butter sauce with rosemary and crushed walnuts. Also on the menu will be tortellini con tartufo, sheep's milk ricotta-stuffed pasta with white truffle butter and red-wine-braised vitello osso bucco. Additionally, some menu items will stem from Major Food Group's elite Privato restaurant.

Rounding out the menu is a dessert called the "Cannoli Sundae," a concoction made of "cannoli-flavored, soft-serve ice cream studded with chocolate chips, Sicilian pistachios, and candied fruit that is served with fresh fried cannoli shell rounds," according to Bloomberg.

Vino’s wine program features a 3,000-bottle wine list sourced from around the world. Among the heavyweight bottles the spot will pour, two of the most treasured are a 2008 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Del Comune Di Serralunga D'Alba and a Bachelet Monnot Saint Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly 2020.

Designed by Paul Bishop of Bishop Design, the restaurant’s interior features a warmly lit dining room accented in dark walnut and mahogany, with heavy burgundy velvet drapes and a tin-tiled ceiling, which is perforated to balance acoustics. There will also be a long, burnished bronze-accented bar in a separate lounge, as well as a private dining room with a Murano glass light fixture. Pieces from Julian Schnabel and Francesco Clemente will decorate the walls.

Carbone and Carbone Vino are high-end Italian-American restaurants created by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznick of Major Food Group.
