Miami Beach is getting a brand-new Whole Foods. The grocer is reportedly opening a 40,000+ square foot store at 1901 Alton Rd., bringing fresh produce, organic staples, and plenty of parking to one of the city's busiest corners. The development will also include a Wells Fargo branch and 271 parking spaces.

The project is being backed by a $54 million construction loan from Ocean Bank. While construction timelines haven't been made public, the deal marks a major step forward for the site, which has long been poised for redevelopment. The property is tied to developer Russell Galbut of Crescent Heights and Marisa Galbut of GFO Investments, both of whom are known for reshaping the Miami Beach landscape.

With the original Whole Foods farther south on Alton and a Trader Joe's just down the road, this new store adds to what's quickly becoming the city's go-to corridor for groceries. And now, parking.

The new outpost joins a growing lineup of Whole Foods Markets across Miami, including the long-awaited Edgewater location opening this Thursday, June 26, after years of speculation and delays. That store features an expanded hot bar, kombucha on tap, and a broader selection of local products, which may be an indicator of what's to come for the Miami Beach buildout. Other highlights from the Edgewater store include a Cuban-style coffee bar pouring cortaditos and café con leche, a bakery stocked with pastries and desserts from Zak the Baker, Bunnie Cakes, and Simply Delicious Bakers, and a prepared foods section slinging fresh pizza, sushi by Sushi Maki, and made-to-order sandwiches.

As with typical Whole Foods outposts, products usually must meet Whole Foods’ strict ingredient standards, which ban hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and hundreds of synthetic additives. Normally, Prime members can receive exclusive weekly deals and can check out using Amazon One, the retailer’s palm-based payment system.
