Miami Was Europe’s Third Favorite American Travel Destination This Summer; First Among the French

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone who’s walked down Lincoln Road and heard the menagerie of exotic accents, but Miami is a particular vacation destination for European tourists. It’s the third most popular destination this summer of any city for visitors from the continent, actually. And apparently French tourists have a particularly strong amour for their amis in Miami.

According to the Huffington Post, hotel search site Trivago broke down the most popular U.S. destinations for European travelers this summer. Here’s the top twelve:

• 10. San Diego, CA
• 9. Washington, D.C.
• 8. Chicago, IL
• 7. Boston, MA
• 6. Orlando, FL
• 5. Los Angeles, CA
• 4. San Francisco, CA
• 3. Miami, FL
• 2. Las Vegas, NV
• 1. New York, NY

The site also broke down each city in the top ten by the nationalities of each city’s European guests. Here’s Miami’s:

30% German

18% French

15% British

13% Italian

4% Spanish

4% Swedish

3% Dutch

13% Other

Germans coming out on top isn’t much of a surprise. Unless you count Russia, Germany has the biggest population of any European country by about 16 million. Germans were also the top tourists in seven of the top ten cities.

Miami, though, had the highest percentage of French tourists by a large margin (second place is LA with 13 percent of their Euro-guests being French), and was the only city in the top ten where French tourists topped British tourists.

Frankly we’re flattered. France has always been a country known for its discriminating taste. They’re home to the world’s best chefs, artists, fashion designers and house DJs, and apparently the world’s most savvy tourists.

Yes, and now your weekend-long fling with your French lover is suddenly making a lot more sense.
