Ultra Music Festival 2019 Phase One Lineup: Marshmello, Deadmau5, the Chainsmokers, and Others

If all you want for Christmas is a supersize lineup of EDM's biggest heavy-hitters, Ultra Music Festival is granting your wish.

This afternoon, the festival dropped its Phase One lineup, with a plethora of familiar names. Headliners include Marshmello, Martin Garrix, Testpilot (AKA Deadmau5), the Chainsmokers, Zedd, Tiësto, Rezz, David Guetta, and others. The incredibly successful Resistance stage will return with its own set of headliners, including Carl Cox (of course!), Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Sasha & John Digweed, and Dubfire.

The festival will also introduce a new stage, dubbed the "Live Arena" (probably replacing the long-struggling Live stage). Acts such as Illenium, Louis the Child, and Odesza are slated to perform. However, fans will probably be most excited to see Deadmau5 debut his Cube 3.0 stage production here.

Though it's only the Phase One lineup, it's still worth pointing out that female-identifying performers are still very much in the minority at the festival: Rezz and Nicole Moudaber are the only women listed as headliners. (New Times continues to point out this issue because it ought to be addressed by the festival.) That's really a shame, because 2018 was a great year for female-identifying acts, with releases such as the recently Grammy-nominated Sophie's Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides and Peggy Gou's EP Once standing head and shoulders above their peers. Here's hoping Phase Two adds some much-needed estrogen.

However, the big news this year is Ultra's move to Virginia Key. Traffic and environmental concerns will definitely be on city officials' minds, but festival-goers are surely hoping for an experience that matches or supersedes the one that's occurred at Bayfront Park since 2011.
