Practice makes perfect, but practice doesn’t mean just singing and posing in front of the mirror or rehearsing alone in the studio without the reaction of a real crowd. So, if your imaginary friends already know your songs by heart, there’s a night giving you the chance to test your skills in the real world.
Fat Jesu$ & Friends Open Mic returns Monday, Aug. 31, at Argo Bull Lounge in Hallandale Beach, creating a platform for emerging artists to sharpen their stage skills, perform new material and connect with other local creatives.
The event is organized by Miami A&R and producer Fat Jesu$, who was named Best Hip-Hop Act in New Times’ 2026 Best of Miami issue. Aug. 31 marks its debut at Argo Bull Lounge, where organizers plan to host the event a couple of times a month.
The series arrives as Fat Jesu$ continues to work behind the scenes as a producer and collaborator with up-and-coming South Florida artists, including Krissy Celess and Champolaa. Now, he’s creating another avenue for artists to develop — this time by putting them directly in front of an audience.
“Fat Jesu$ & Friends Open Mic is about creating a real platform for artists to step outside their comfort zone, showcase their talent, and connect with the community. We wanted to put together an event where performers can be seen, heard, and celebrated while everyone comes together for a great night of music and entertainment.” Fat Jesu$ tells New Times, highlighting the night’s main prize. “The free two-hour studio session for the best performer is our way of investing back into the talent that comes through the door. We’re excited to bring this experience to Argo Bull Lounge on August 31st and more dates throughout the months to come.”
Each performer gets the opportunity to present two songs or poems in front of a live audience, and the night’s standout performer will receive a free two-hour studio session sponsored by Lucrative Youth. Music throughout the night will be provided by Mr.VybeCTRL and Fat Jesu$.
Beyond giving artists stage time, the open mic is intended as a networking space where rappers, singers, poets, producers and other creatives can meet and potentially find their next collaborator. Food, drinks and hookah will also be available at Argo Bull Lounge.
And if one open mic isn’t enough practice, check out Miami New Times’ guide to the best open mic nights in Miami for more places to take the stage.
