Walking past Bayfront Park on Saturday night, you might have mistaken the scene for an Ultra event, as Rüfüs Du Sol drew a crowd comparable to a festival. A hot ticket amid Miami's F1 weekend, prices topped $300 on resale sites. The demand was so high, in fact, that when the doors opened at five for the nine o'clock show, a huge line had already formed outside, taking over that corner of downtown.

The Australian trio, known for its alternative dance music, brought together a massive audience under the Miami skyline, taking the stage around 9:30 to a crowd of 25,000 clad in pashminas and sunglasses and eager to sing and dance.

Rüfüs Du Sol has become a staple of the Miami music scene, thanks to the group's unique stage presence and their Magic City's affinity for house sounds. This current tour is in support of their fifth LP, Inhale/Exhale, a 2024 release whose sound highlights the band's evolution and continued growth in technical skill.

On this night, frontman Tyrone Lindqvist, James Hunt (drums), and Jon George (keyboards) surrounded themselves with an impressive array of synthesizers and other instruments, all of which saw use during the set. A major highlight was Lindqvist's knack for connecting with the crowd, upping the energy on early-set bangers like "On My Knees," which had everyone singing along at the top of their lungs, and “You Were Right." A surprise appearance by soul man Curtis Harding, who took the stage to perform his part on "Surrender" (2021), further upped the ante on energy.

Rüfüs Du Sol took a subtle route with visuals, opting for a simple setup enhanced with some cool lasers. This being an outdoor show in downtown Miami, some attendees might have expected fireworks, and the absence of pyrotechnics felt like a missed opportunity.

The crowd, in general, was fun and cool, with some people climbing trees and even a mid-show marriage proposal. The atmosphere was lively, with a wide age range represented, all there to enjoy the music and the park-encompassing vibe. The evening's peak arrived with the band's set-closing 2015 hit, "Innerbloom," which captivated one and all. The buildup and release provided a powerful moment, as attendees cried and screamed the lyrics.

The band then left the stage, only to return for a three-song encore, ending with "Music Is Better," which saw Lindqvist hop off the stage and into the throng.

Near the end of Saturday's performance, Lindqvist referenced Rüfüs Du Sol's affinity for Miami and a corresponding explosion in their popularity, going from playing to 5,000 people to playing to five times that many. It's no wonder Rüfüs Du Sol is in such high demand. The threesome is a leading force in electronic music, pushing its boundaries with a sound that evokes a blend of New Order and Daft Punk and live shows that are sonically impressive and intimately engaging.
