Looking for somewhere to ring in the new year? Billed as the largest LGBTQ New Year's Eve music event in North America, Dreamland is once again returning to Miami, offering six days of nonstop entertainment and parties.
Dreamland, which began on December 27 and runs through January 1, is held at several venues throughout the city. Its main event is on New Year's Eve at ZeyZey, followed by a sunset celebration at Kygo's Palm Tree Club on New Year's Day.
Jake Resnicow, the veteran event producer behind Dreamland, hopes to completely transform the spaces playing host.
"We're hyped," Resnicow says. "It's really about creating moments that will blow your mind and be really unexpected. It's about taking people on a journey."
Though this is the fourth edition of Dreamland, Resnicow is still looking to surprise and delight guests, whether by putting together the parties themselves or simply by cultivating an atmosphere where attendees feel free to have fun.
"There are so many people from our community who perhaps don't necessarily have parents who accept them or too many friends in their small towns," Resnicow says. "They're able to come here and find new friends and family for life."
"Hearing those stories from our guests, hearing how partners have found their future loves and are now celebrating years of engagement — that's the inspiration," he adds.
Resnicow has received enthusiastic interest and expects a turnout in the hundreds. He's sure guests will also go all out.
"There's something so magical when you see everybody dressing up in over-the-top outfits, matching the themes of each event," he said. "They really let loose and express themselves. It's just smiles all around. You can really feel that electric energy."
Proceeds from the festival will, in part, benefit Femme House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for women and gender-expansive individuals in production, DJing, and engineering.
"It's all about closing that gender gap in music by providing education, mentorship, and performance opportunities," Resnicow says. "We gotta build that pipeline for talent. It's really important to me, and it's one of those pieces I wanna leave as a legacy down the line."
