Pizza Volante, what was left of Jonathan Eismann’s mini-restaurant empire in the Design District, has shut its doors.

Less than two years after opening, the small pizza place on North Miami Avenue followed the fate of its siblings, Pacific Time, Q, and Fin, even though it seems to have fared better than them while it was open. The restaurant served good pizza, in the beginning at least, and earned our Miami New Times Best Pizza Joint in 2010.

But we knew it was only a matter of time. The Pizza Volante space was listed for sale back in September and, as far as we can tell, the listing was up until last week.

For now, we know Eismann is consulting with Spartico at the Mayfair Hotel. Who knows when he’ll resurface and with what.
