Miami's artsy, graffiti-draped neighborhood isn't just a place to play these days — it's a place to stay, too.

Moxy Miami Wynwood, the neighborhood's second hotel, will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, November 20. The 120-room hotel quietly began welcoming guests in late June and is now ready to make things official.

"This brand was meant for this neighborhood, meaning that the location, art, and culture here really mesh with our target guest," says hotel manager Chris Thompson. "It all starts from check-in, where you're greeted with two welcome cocktails, and things only get livelier from there."

The Wynwood location marks Moxy's second in South Florida. In 2021, the brand, which falls under the Marriott International umbrella, opened a location on South Beach. Thompson says that, whereas the Miami Beach property is more resort-style, the Wynwood location caters to a wide variety of guests. He notes on a recent day, "On one side of our bar, we had a large bachelorette party, and then, on the other side, we had people mingling from a real estate conference we were hosting."

Funkiness abounds at the second-floor check-in/bar experience, with a shuffleboard table, games like Jenga, nooks for remote workers, plush bar stools, and a neon #MOXYWYNWOOD sign looming. Art-wise, pieces from the likes of Lady Pink and Vance DNA, inside and out, add that much flair. The welcome cocktails include Haku vodka and a yuzu-meets-lavender essence. The bar also offers an array of signature cocktails, on-the-fly bites, and a dinner menu with arepas, flatbreads, and the in-between.

The property is planning DJ performances for the communal space to complement its property-wide amenities. Those guest perks include a daily yoga class with partners YO BK, a 24/7 fitness center, and complimentary bikes for coasting around the neighborhood. The property is also pet-friendly, which was put to the test during its June soft launch.

"In June, we opened in the middle of a hurricane and were 100 percent sold out," says Thompson. "In part, this was because we had so many people relocating and seeking shelter from Fort Myers, including many guests with pets. We waived our pet fee during that time, and it was a bit like Jumanji here with all the pets. But we started off strong, learned a lot, and have since hosted guests for III Points weekend, Taylor Swift, and plenty of business guests, too."

The rooms span 211 to 592 square feet and come in five different configurations. Each pays homage to Miami, like the Graffiti Grove setup (king room) and La Familia, which features two queen beds and a bunk. Signature features include Murphy desks, under-bed storage, and oodles of outlets.

"The biggest difference here, though, is our staff," says Thompson. "We have one staff member who's a DJ in their free time, another who's a bodybuilder — we have found people that people enjoy talking. And we're not your parents' type of Marriott. It's a little different, and we're proud of it."
