Remember that dream you used to have repeatedly as a kid? You were sitting at your desk in school chatting with your friends, passing notes, shooting spitballs, and even answering the occasional teacher’s question when you looked down and realized your clothing was a bit baggier than usual. You accidentally left the house in your pajamas! Well, now your kids can do what you only dreamed of. Every Friday at 7:00 p.m. through August 22, Radio Disney (AM-990) will throw a children’s event called Pajama-Rama on Main Street and 67th Avenue in Miami Lakes. Magic, music, contests, and new-toy introductions all tied around a weekly theme (this time it’s enchanted fairy tale) will exhaust your tykes so they can go home and get a good night’s rest. Agricultural Adventures
Let the sweltering kids squirt each other with a hose to cool off. Their plastic wading pool is perfect for homegrown lettuce and herbs. Just add water and fertilizer. The soil-less (some say “sexy”) technique of hydroponic gardening in such porch-friendly containers as kiddy pools is among the demonstrations slated for the Tropical Ag Fiesta, running from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum (12450 SW 152nd St.). For those who prefer more traditional agricultural styles, the fiesta also features plenty of lush tropical and ornamental plants — and information on how and where to use them. Other highlights of the event, sponsored by the Southern Florida Tropical Growers Inc., include refreshing fruit milkshakes whipped up by high school students in the Future Farmers of America clubs. Time Off – The Hours
You have a random Monday off from work, so you decide to take in a little culture. Too bad for you, most local museums are closed Monday. Considering they stay open Saturday and Sunday during the week, they deserve to take a break. No problem. You’ll just hightail it over to the Wolfsonian-FIU (1001 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). They boast a unique collection and a different day of rest from their peers: Wednesday. Well, find an alternative, buddy.
