The age-old question, “Is Flanigan’s ever opening in Homestead?” may finally get answered in the next few months. According to the Instagram account True Homestead, which documents Homestead news, Flanigan’s is still in talks to open in Homestead as the city reassesses its former entertainment district plans.

Florida staple Flanigan’s remains in discussions to open a location next to the former city hall, where the former Homestead library once stood, according to Vice Mayor Sean L. Fletcher. Flanigan’s marketing director Jennifer Pierce confirmed the news to New Times. “We do plan to bring Flanigan’s to Homestead. We are still in the initial stages of making that happen,” confirms Pierce.

While the popular South Florida restaurant chain continues negotiations, plans for the much-anticipated entertainment district, Homestead CityPlace, are being reconsidered. City officials have been directed to seek new proposals for the development after the previously selected builder, Coconut Grove-based Related Urban, withdrew its bid. The developer cited that the “indecisiveness by staff and elected officials during nearly four years of negotiations created too many risks,” according to the Real Deal.

While the future of that project remains uncertain as city leaders explore new options, Homestead-based fans of Flanigan’s are still extremely excited for a future opening.

Multiple enthusiastic fans commented on True Homestead’s Instagram post on Tuesday, February 11, with comments ranging from, “Good! We need all the restaurants we can get. Too many new people moving to Homestead and not enough restaurants!” to “It’s about damn time! Woo hoo!”
