Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros radiate positivity.
Sure, hippie hallucinogens help. But even soberish, the 13-piece troupe’s Sunday-afternoon set at Bonnaroo 2013’s Which Stage made everyone’s eyes swell with happy tears.
“I knew I was going to [propose] during [‘Home’],” says Patrick Fette, a mustached dude from Louisville, Kentucky, who asked his girlfriend, Melissa Beswick, to marry him as Alex Ebert, Jade Castrinos, and a choir of tripped-out Bonnaroovians sang the chorus to Edward Sharpe’s 2009 hit.

Home, let me come home/Home is wherever I’m with you/Home, let me come home/Home is wherever I’m with you
“We’ve seen [Edward Sharpe] before,” Fette says. “Actually, the first time I told her I loved her, I kinda quoted some of the lyrics. It’s sappy.”
Beswick respectfully disagrees.
“It was very sweet!”
So was the proposal. And it’s something that everyone who witnessed it will remember for a lifetime, especially Beswick.
She says that “being here with [Fette] on his first Bonnaroo experience” is special “’cause it’s my favorite place on Earth.”
For the newly engaged couple, Bonnaroo truly is “Home.”
