The fifth annual Iron Fork competition, set for October 18 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Grand Central, showcases not only good food and cocktails from some of Miami’s best restaurants but also an awesome death-match-style battle in which two of South Florida’s finest chefs fight for the supreme title of Iron Fork master.

Iron Fork: New Chef Announcement and Half Priced VIP Ticket Offer
This year sees Blue Collar’s Daniel Serfer take on Phillip Bryant, chef de cuisine at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. As we reported last week, Bryant was named the replacement for Kenny Gilbert, who was originally scheduled to compete.
Bryant told Short Order he’ll rest up and sharpen his knives in anticipation of
Thursday’s competition. Though he admits to not having a chance to eat
at Serfer’s restaurant, he is boning up on his competitor’s menu to get a feel for the Blue Collar chef’s style.
Bryant wouldn’t share his specific strategy — “I can’t give away my secret” — but promises a fair fight, channeling classic duels of yore. “I’m thinking white gloves, 30 paces… and battle.”
The Yardbird chef does have one secret weapon he’ll bring to the fight — the element of surprise. Bryant figures the last-minute chef change will work to his advantage. “Hopefully, Serfer will underestimate me. Then I’ll show him what I’ve got.”
Tickets for Iron Fork 2012 are $40 general admission and $70 for VIP
