It lingered in the background at nearly every one of our backyard barbecues last year — Givers’ up-tempo debut record, In Light. Nestled alongside the Black Keys’ El Camino, Fleet Foxes’ Helplessness Blues, and Cults’ self-titled effort, the record even earned a spot on our arbitrary Best Of 2011 list, an accolade that the Louisiana-based band likely overlooked.
Fret not. On Thursday, January 19, when Givers plays Bardot’s Living Room Sessions concert series, Crossfade will attempt to present the quintet with a makeshift award commemorating its buzz-worthy achievements .

Arguably the most versatile instrument on the planet, the washboard doesn’t only make for great zydeco indie-pop. It’s also a portable laundry room. Hurray for cleanliness and Creole rhythm!
Band-Aid Adhesive Bandages
Be it on guitar strings, drumsticks, washboards, whatever — musicians are always injuring their fingers. And with Givers penchant for superenergetic shows and constant flip-flopping of instruments, the road can be a very dangerous place. Surely, they’d appreciate a big box of Johnson & Johnson.
Dashikis
Givers already blends elements of African percussion. Why not blend elements of African garb?
Antacids
Creole food can be a little spicy, even for a band from Louisiana. And nothing’s worse than heartburn.
Parachute
Givers are only going to go “Up Up Up” in 2012.
