Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Just before Christmas, Chanukkah, and Kwanzaa hijacked our editorial focus, we here at Crossfade checked up on the annual Jazz in the Gardens music fest. And unfortunately, we were kinda bummed.
We referred to the lineup as “lackluster.” We complained about Kenny G’s saxophone sucking. We called for some divas and a couple of R&B pervs à la R. Kelly.
Luckily, the JIG staff swung into action, announcing the addition of Ms. Mary J. Blige, a multiple Grammy winner who’s been officially certified by VH1’s Divas.
As gushingly described by Divas master of ceremonies, former Law & Order: LA star, and one-time Oscar nominee Terrence Howard, she is “one of the greatest singers of all time! … The Queen of R&B! The one, the only, the thoroughly magnificent Mary J. Blige.”

Of course, we aren’t as insanely stoked over Ms. Blige as unabashed fanboy Terry Howard. But we’ll admit to being mildly excited.
Still, though, we wanna know: Where’s our R&B pervs?
