Long before Janet Jackson shocked the world by baring her breast on international television, we had already spent many years besieged by racy cleavage-heavy images. A lot of those provocative shots were of supermodels on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, courtesy of fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo, the mag’s cover king from 1965 to 1995. Known for discovering Brooke Shields, the acclaimed lensman created lively fashion images and compelling portraits of celebrities (see Lypsinka, right) over a 50-year career that included tons of magazine work, 6 books, and retrospectives at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and London’s Tate Gallery. Last month 82-year-old Scavullo died suddenly of heart failure. At 7:30 this evening, Art+ Fine Art Gallery (Village of Merrick Park, 358 San Lorenzo Ave., Coral Gables) will open “Francesco Scavullo: An Homage Photographic Retrospective,” celebrating those familiar images that typified a bygone era. The show runs through Thursday, March 18. Admission is free. Call 786-497-1111. — By Nina Korman
